Privacy Policy

1. Who handles your data

The site is built and maintained by MB «Didysis Uvis» (company code 306171356), operating under the UVIS brand (uvis.pro). For privacy questions write to: hi@topchess.org.

2. What data we collect

Depending on whether you are signed in, we process:

• Account data: email address, name or nickname, avatar link, country (if you provide one). If you register with an email address – a cryptographic hash of your password; we never store or see the actual password.
• If you sign in with Google: Google gives us your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture. In this case we store no password at all.
• Game data: games played, puzzle and drill results, experience points (XP), rank, streaks, achievements, board and piece preferences.
• Community content: your posts in the ChessChan forum and chats, private messages, friends list.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, sign-in time – kept in server logs for security and error diagnosis.

We collect no special categories of data and never require your real name. You may register under any nickname.

3. Why we use it

• To run your account and keep your progress – performance of our agreement with you.
• To show leaderboards, ranks and public profiles – legitimate interest and the core purpose of the service.
• To protect the site from cheating, spam and attacks – legitimate interest.
• To reply to your emails – legitimate interest.
• For anonymous traffic statistics – your consent (cookie banner).

We send no marketing emails and never use your data for advertising profiles.

4. Cookies

We use two kinds of cookies:

• Essential – the session cookie that keeps you signed in, plus your chosen language and board settings (stored in your browser). The site cannot work without them, so they need no consent.
• Statistics (Google Analytics) – Google cookies that help us understand how many people visit and which pages are popular. The data is aggregated; we cannot see individual people. These cookies are only used after you accept them in the cookie banner.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. You may also block cookies in your browser – if you block the essential ones, signing in will not work.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell data. We rely on these service providers only:

• Google – for signing in with a Google account (if you use it) and for Google Analytics traffic statistics.
• Hostinger – server hosting (EU data centre).

We may also disclose data to competent authorities where the law requires it. Some of these providers (e.g. Google) may process data outside the EEA; such transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC).

6. What is public

Your nickname, avatar, rank, XP, country and game statistics are visible to other visitors on leaderboards and on your profile. Your forum posts are public. Your email address is NEVER shown publicly. If you prefer not to be identifiable, use a nickname that does not reveal who you are.

7. How long we keep it

• Account and game data is kept while your account is active.
• After account deletion, data is removed or anonymised within 30 days.
• Server logs are kept for up to 12 months for security purposes.
• Public forum posts may remain but are detached from your account (anonymised).

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• access your data and receive a copy of it;
• correct inaccurate data (you can change some of it yourself in your profile);
• delete your account and the data linked to it;
• restrict or object to processing;
• withdraw consent for statistics cookies;
• lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority – in Lithuania, the State Data Protection Inspectorate (vdai.lrv.lt).

9. How to delete your account

To delete your account, email hi@topchess.org from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We complete such requests within 30 days and confirm when done. Deleting your account permanently removes your games, XP, rank and achievements – this cannot be undone.

10. Children

The site is suitable for all ages, but we recommend registering from age 14 (or the age set by the law of your country). If you are younger, please register only with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. If we learn that a younger child created an account without permission, we will remove it.

11. Data security

Traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are stored only as cryptographic hashes, and backups are made. No measure guarantees absolute protection, so please use a unique password and never share it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will announce material changes on the site. The date of the latest update is shown at the top of this document.
